Purpose of the Role
Digital Business Automation (DigiBA) are a global function within HSBC’s Chief Technology Office (CTO), with over 300 colleagues in multiple locations across the globe. We are responsible for defining and implementing the strategy for several critical products as well as ensuring their availability, recoverability, and security. Our products are consumed at scale throughout the organisation, and by external clients, and support many of the business’ most important services and processes. This is an exciting opportunity as DigiBA becomes more product oriented, delivering world class products that customers want, need and can self-serve. We will deliver value faster - to our customers and to the business functions that rely on our expertise – so they succeed.
As a Product Owner for Managed File Transfer, you will be empowered to make the best decisions for the product across its lifecycle - from idea, delivery, growth, and demise. Alongside the Product team and in collaboration with stakeholders, such as engineers, technology service owners and strategic suppliers, you will be accountable for defining the strategy and roadmap for the product, realising and promoting product benefits / value, understanding the business requirements and managing product costs. You will need to prioritise the product’s backlog to effectively balance opportunities for cost optimisation, deliver customer features, maintain and operate underlying processes and technologies, while ensuring the product remains compliant with the organisation’s Risk and Controls Framework and regulatory requirements.
Role Expectation
* Delving deep into user research, market trends, and competitor analysis, building a holistic understanding of the landscape and the challenges customers face.
* Empathising with the customer by actively listening to customer feedback, analysing usage data, identifying unmet customer needs and opportunities for improvement
* Establishing a clear product vision that represents the need and wants of the customer to drive business value whilst communicating the product vision to business colleagues, Engineering, Architecture, delivery teams and stakeholders.
* Optimise product costs to deliver customer and commercial value, leveraging Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) mechanisms, data and insights.
* Developing and communicating a compelling product strategy that is aligned to an overall technology strategy, leveraging strategic vendor engagement and potential future direction.
* Translating the vision and strategy into a product backlog (feature writing and Story writing, backlog slicing), along with identifying Minimum Viable Product (MVP), planning releases and delivery roadmaps for the product.
* Supporting business and delivery team in clearly understanding backlog items, their priority and why those items are key to customer success and manage backlog to align with Product vision and priorities.
* Working closely with developers, designers, and other stakeholders, fostering open communication, and building trust. This collaborative approach ensures smooth execution and timely delivery.
* Analysing user data, tracking success metrics (OKRs, KPIs and SLAs), and leveraging insights to make informed decisions that optimise the product's performance, value and commercial (profit and loss) goals.
Skills Required
* Extensive experience in a digital, technical or user centric product role (Product Owner or Product Manager).
* Must have a strong background in IT infrastructure and Managed File Transfer solutions or other related File Transfer products
* Ability to positively influence, engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including high value customers, suppliers / vendors, and other internal Product teams.
* Experience leveraging financial information to monitor costs and/or make commercial decisions to drive value
* Demonstrable management and critical decision-making experience in a regulated industry.
* Confidence to experiment, test ideas, and share learnings and insights.
* Strong analytical, problem solving, process design, and requirements gathering skills along with knowledge of Project Management, Business Analysis, and / or Software Development Lifecycle - ideally in an Agile / Scrum environment.
