The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is currently seeking skilled and enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers to join our Research and Development team. Our team is engaged in a variety of ground-breaking research initiatives, including projects in vessel decarbonisation, innovative vessel propulsion, alternative fuels for range extension of electric vessels, energy storage systems, artificial intelligence/machine learning, digital twins, and blockchain technology for operations and maintenance. This position is part of the RESTORE project, which aims to develop, test, and deploy an innovative Retrofittable Propulsion Technology (RPT) for electric vessels with a hydrogen range extender. The goal is to achieve Net Zero Emissions for existing Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV). The project will conduct four real-world demonstrations using the RPT, using an MCA Cat 2 CTV, supported by onshore charging system and hydrogen production systems. You will be required to utilize emerging methodologies to develop platforms, strategies, and tools for vessel emission data collection, real-time monitoring, and quantification. The project outcomes are expected to contribute to the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) strategy for emissions reduction in maritime. You will have a PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in an appropriate engineering discipline (Naval Architecture/Civil/Structural Engineering Mechanical/Renewable Energy). If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31. This post is offered on a fixed term basis for 8 months.
