Berwick Infirmary is currently building a brand new state of the art hospital, and this role will see you based at the existing site, transitioning into the new building as it is built (July 2025), delivering an excellent level of patient care and the best experience possible for its users, staff, and patients.
Job Description
This role will be to work as part of a small team as a Multi-Skilled Craftsperson, Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, delivering hands-on work across the site. You will look after all building services, plant, and equipment and ensure its safe and proper use.
* Service, test, diagnose, repair, and calibrate advanced Mechanical & Electrical plant and equipment such as HVAC, Air handling units, mains distribution systems, standby power systems, and UPS systems.
* Knowledge of procedures or the ability to assemble, install, commission new work, and diagnose and rectify faults on items of engineering plant, alarm systems, complex equipment, and contribute to design where required.
* Use highly complex technical information and drawings when servicing and commissioning new plant and equipment or fault finding.
* Knowledge of domestic hot water systems, 400V generator standby sets, and UPS systems.
* Building maintenance - lighting - mains distribution, small power lighting, heating ventilation, and air conditioning.
* Ability to work on all types of air-conditioning plant and ventilation systems.
* Experience with Building Management Systems.
* Hold, or be prepared to accept with relevant training, Competent Person (CP) responsibilities in such areas as Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS), Electrical High & Low Voltage Systems (HV/LV), Legionella; and Test Person responsibilities for Washer Disinfectors and Sterilisers.
The Successful Applicant
* A competent Multi-Skilled Engineer with experience in Mechanical and Electrical and building maintenance in a commercial estate.
* A BTEC ONC/ City & Guilds in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* NHS experience is not essential, but a technical grounding with complex estates would be ideal.
* An excellent communicator at all levels.
* A person who can see opportunities to overcome challenges with excellent communication skills.
* Be part of a small team to manage the new hospital site.
* While previous experience is desirable, we're really interested in someone willing to learn and develop a career within the NHS.
