Job overview
The ward clerk helps provide day-to-day clerical support to facilitate the smooth running of the ward under the direction and supervision of senior colleagues. This job role covers clerical duties such as meeting and greeting staff, patients, and visitors, the movement of case-notes around the trust, and the provision, preparation, and maintenance of patient case-notes, booking transport, and ordering supplies and bed hire.
Main duties of the job
1. Support the administration service in recording patient information, making appointments, dealing with enquiries, and liaising with clinicians.
2. Provide day-to-day clerical support to facilitate the smooth running of the ward.
3. Manage admission and discharging patients using trust software programmes.
4. Answer telephone queries from families and other departments.
5. Adopt a caring, compassionate approach as a first contact for people who may be anxious.
Person specification
Experience
* Known IT skills
* Good communication skills, including reading and writing skills
* Ability to work under pressure
* Able to take messages accurately
* Knowledge of NHS computer systems
