Our Benefits About The Role A Deputy Area Planning Manager plays a critical role in the delivery of the Development Management service. The post holder has responsibility for processing some of the most strategically important development in the borough while managing and mentoring skilled staff within the area planning teams. They will assist with managerial responsibilities within the team, including the allocation and signing off of applications and identifying and addressing areas of need within the service. The posts requires a candidate who has a passion and vision for developing the built environment to achieve the council’s aspirations, who has the confidence and capability to engage with developers, residents, Councillors and other officers and the ability and experience to mentor our dynamic Development Management team. About The Team You’ll Be Working In Hounslow are looking for a Deputy Area Planning Manager to join their award-winning Development Management Team. The team are currently working on a wealth of planning applications critical to the social and economic wellbeing of the borough. We have high housing targets to achieve, new schools to place children in and need to create opportunities for employers who want to be in our well located borough. This must be balanced against acting on the boroughs Climate Emergency and with Green Belt, listed buildings, conservation areas and River Thames frontage that need protecting. All this needs to be delivered while playing a crucial supporting role in delivering the boroughs partnerships and values About You Able to process planning applications at the highest technical level, to identify problems and develop effective solutions in a changing environment responding quickly to conflicting workloads and changing priorities. Able to communicate in a sensitive and effective manner both orally and in writing and able to deal effectively with Members, the public, officers in other departments and outside organisations. Able to demonstrate effective negotiation skills both inside and outside the authority, e.g. experience of negotiating major planning gain, complex enforcement matters. To maintain an up to date technical knowledge of planning related legislation, principles and practice including knowledge of climate science and planning law. Ability to interpret legislation, and to impart knowledge to a team. Able to lead on existing work practices and make recommendations for improvements.
