Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Job Overview
My client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic systems, PLC-controlled machinery, and other mechanical equipment. This role requires strong diagnostic skills and the ability to perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct routine and reactive maintenance on hydraulic systems and PLC-controlled equipment.
* Perform fault finding and diagnostics on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
* Implement and follow Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
* Carry out mechanical repairs, replacements, and upgrades to machinery.
* Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and technical drawings.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company maintenance standards.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records.
* Identify and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency.
* Provide support for machinery installations, commissioning, and modifications.
* Supervise and train two maintenance engineers.
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Job Requirements
* HNC/HND, or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related field.
* Relevant industry certifications (e.g., hydraulics, PLC programming, or mechanical maintenance) are an advantage.
* Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
* Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
* Good understanding of hydraulic systems.
* Experience working with PLC-controlled machinery.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
* Use of CAD software to create and modify technical drawings.
* Familiarity with PPM strategies and maintenance best practices.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Experience with welding and fabrication (desirable but not essential).
* Understanding of health & safety regulations in an industrial setting.
* Good communication skills and ability to work within a team.
