Job description
Are you looking for an opportunity in Housing Options and Homelessness? Do you want to work with us to shape and develop the future of Housing and Communities in the Braintree District?
Our Housing and Communities team has built excellent partnerships that deliver high quality Housing services across the District. We are looking for a Housing Operations Manager who can build on this strong foundation with energy and passion for Housing and Early Intervention and Prevention of Homelessness alongside overseeing statutory responsibilities under the Housing Act 1996 (Part 7), Homelessness Act 2002, Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
In this role you will be responsible for leading on strategy, policy development and operational delivery of a positive performance led culture across housing options and housing assessment teams. Your remit will include supporting the development and implementation and monitoring of the Council’s Housing and Homelessness strategies. You will also be a core member of the Housing & Communities Senior Management team, delivering strong and customer focused services for our residents.
To be successful in this role you will need to be able to learn, develop and respond to emerging trends and local and national policy change. You will have a clear understanding of the importance of information in decision making and be able to demonstrate proven success in shaping and embedding a culture of early intervention and prevention. It will be your responsibility to ensure that changes in government and wider Council policies are conveyed to Cabinet Members, Senior Managers and Directors, then shared with managers and employees in a format that is clear for each audience's purpose.
You will have contact with a wide range of customers and organisations and will be required to represent the Council across internal and external forums. Your communication skills need to be excellent, as well as your abilities to negotiate and influence, bringing together individuals and teams. You must be able to problem solve, devise solutions and make informed and well-judged decisions.
Proven experience of managing Housing Options services, alongside developing and writing policies and reports which have led to transforming service delivery, is essential. With excellent written skills, you will be someone who can see the big picture for the future of housing in the wider system aligning with health and communities and seek creative solutions for delivery of our service.
In return you will join an organisation that not only values your contribution but will seek to use your contribution to make a difference to our residents. We are proud of the services we provide and are always looking to do more. We have a strong reputation for delivery and embrace new approaches.
If you would like an informal conversation about this role, please contact Caroline Elias-Stephenson, Head of Housing and Communities via HR on 01376 552525.
