Location: Emmaus Merseyside
Hours: 24 hours per week over four days. 09:00 – 16:00 with 1 hr lunch.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Accountable to: Head of Accommodation & Operations
Responsible for: Companions and Volunteers
Overall Purpose of the Job:
The Support Team is responsible for the management of all activities relating to the welfare, care and development of companions in the community and superstore in a manner which embodies the Emmaus ethos. This role will support and assist the Support Team with the effective management and day to day activity of Emmaus Merseyside. They will be responsible for providing the support necessary to enable Emmaus Merseyside companions and volunteers to manage their accommodation, play an active part in the Community and make a useful contribution to the social enterprise activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
* To assist in the assessment of potential companions: to show referrals around the community and provide feedback to assist with admission process in accordance with the agreed criteria.
* To support companions in their daily work activities and communicate any relevant information to the Head of Accommodation & Operations in a timely manner.
* Assisting with the preparation and management of individual Personal Development Plans for each companion.
* Provide support to enable companions to deal with day to day issues.
* Identify and signpost companions to specialist services where appropriate and support companions throughout this process.
* Help to organise training and work opportunities for companions.
* To help with maintenance of Emmaus Merseyside property – ensuring that communal and public areas are well maintained and in good functional condition; assisting companions with day-to-day maintenance in their rooms.
* To help recruit, support and manage volunteers as and when required including managing volunteers training needs.
* General administration and record-keeping, e.g. incident book, visitors’ book, etc.
* Ensure all Emmaus Merseyside policies and procedures, including handling, movement and security of monies and stock, health and safety are adhered to at all times.
* To support the Community Manager with regular cash procedures and routines, including the distribution and control of companion allowances, petty cash etc.
* Attend Community/ Team meetings and help promote the mission statement and core values of Emmaus Merseyside.
Other Responsibilities
* Participate in a staff rota where necessary
* Cover for colleagues as and when required
* Attend meetings and contribute to the overall Community strategy
* Promote the development of Solidarity action within and from the community
* Be part of an on call system with on call phone
* Perform any other tasks or duties deemed necessary by your line Manager
General
Emmaus Merseyside works with vulnerable people. Staff and volunteers must observe the proper demarcation and professional boundaries while performing their role.
The post holder must always act in a way which will maintain the good reputation of Emmaus Merseyside, upholding the policies and procedures of Emmaus. The post holder will strive to preserve good working relationships with staff, volunteers, companions and the trustees, keeping the appropriate key personnel well informed of significant matters relating to the Community and Superstore.

Person Specification
Education
* GCSEs or equivalent including passes in English and Maths
* Diploma or degree in related field
* Other related professional education/training
* Basic qualifications in: health and safety, first aid at work, food hygiene, supported housing
Skills
* Good organisational, planning and time management skills
* Good administration skills
* Good IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, internet and email
* Full clean driving licence and willingness to drive Community vehicles when required
* Effective listening skills
* Ability to cope under pressure
* Mediation
* Customer Service Skills
* Understanding of budgets
* Facilitation skills
* Conflict resolution
Experience
* Working with vulnerable people
* Working with people with challenging behaviours, mental illness or addictions.
* Working with, and relating to, a diverse range of people
* Basic knowledge and understanding of homelessness issues
* Demonstration of a belief in the Emmaus principles
* Health & Safety in the workplace
* Basic knowledge of data protection
* First Aid training (this will be updated/given)
* Voluntary/Charity sector experience, working with a Board of Trustees
* Volunteer management
