Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Are you an experienced Nuclear Operations leader looking for a challenging role in the nuclear new build sector? Join our Pre-Operations team at Sizewell C (SZC), where you'll play a crucial part in ensuring the operational readiness of the UK's next nuclear power station.
Role Purpose:
As the Operations Programme Manager, you'll develop and implement strategies to ensure the Pre-Operations ‘Operate the Plant’ Programme meets its goals and is integrated with the broader Pre-Operations Mission. This involves building and leading a dedicated team, aligning with project phases, and representing SZC in key governance forums to ensure safety and operational efficiency is embedded during construction through to the operational phase. You will work from any of our offices in Gloucester, Bristol, London, or Leiston, with regular travel to other SZC and Hinkley Point C (HPC) sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the Operations Strategy, ensuring it aligns with the overall Pre-Operations Strategy and Project priorities, and enables the transition through construction and commissioning, and into operations.
Programme Management: Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver programme activities safely, on time, and within budget. Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
Collaboration and Improvement: Work closely with counterparts at Hinkley Point C (HPC), Nuclear Operations and Nuclear Services to embed best practices and lessons learned into SZC operations and to meet the needs of the future ‘Fleet’.
Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders within the nuclear fleet and including UK Government, EDF, financial investors, and regulators.
Preparation for Commissioning: Oversee and support the development and integration of Commissioning and operational documents, staffing strategies, training programs, and the establishment of safe systems of work for commissioning and operations.
Governance: Represent the operator in project governance forums, ensuring long-term operational needs are prioritized in design and development decisions.
Operational Excellence: Support the definition of the future operating model and develop systems, processes, and tools to ensure effective operations, and act as a champion for nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety and security.
Team Building: Recruit, train, and develop the Control Room and Operate Technician teams, growing the operational team to approximately 174 members.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- Degree in engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of operations within a nuclear operational context.
- Experience and proven agility in a technically complex, dynamic environment with a focus on safety, security, and environmental responsibility.
- Proven leadership skills, including project management and change management.
- Proven Influencing and Collaboration skills in a complex, fast-moving project environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently and make risk informed decisions in a dynamic environment.
Desirable:
- Experience with HPC or other EPR projects.
- Understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and associated legislation.
- Chartered status and proficiency in French are advantageous.
