Money Matters in Schools - Freelance Educator
Citizens Advice Telford & the Wrekin are working in partnership with Wrekin Housing Group to develop resources for schools around money management.
This piece of work is seeking an education professional who can work with the partners to research, design and test a lesson plan for Year 10s to improve their capabilities around money and finances and in line with curriculum where appropriate.
This is the first phase of the project and there may be further opportunities to deliver this work in schools where there are a higher number of Wrekin Housing Group tenants.
As a National network, Citizens Advice have access to a range of existing school programmes and there are also a wide range of resources available free to download online. This work does not require specific expertise or knowledge of the subject matter as the existing resources and staff knowledge in both Citizens Advice and Wrekin Housing Group around these topics is extensive.
We are seeking an innovative, interactive approach to developing a set of resources and as part of this contract we are specifying a testing session and coproduction with a local school.
The programme will cover (indicative - subject to co-design with the selected pilot school):
1. Budgeting/how to make it through a month (creating your own budget)
2. How to stay out of debt
3. Buy Now Pay Later
4. Know your money terms
5. Phishing and online fraud
6. Getting advice
7. Spending and saving
8. Pensions
9. Insurance
10. Gambling and Scams
Stage 1 Approach - Design and Coproduction:
* Desk Research – establishing current resources available and identifying gaps
* Initial feedback from schools re topics/style/propensity/timing/format to take up Managing Money programme.
* Prototype design of Programme
* Testing and coproduction - working closely with WHG we will go into a school to ‘coproduce’ the final programmes – allowing teacher and pupil feedback to further define the product.
* Managing Money Schools Programme Development – using feedback and best practice we will design lesson plans/activities and interactive learning addressing key money matters issues. The programme will be localised and tailored to meet the needs of our schools.
* The programme will be flexible and be designed as 2 separate options– either school/teacher led or facilitated by an external educator.
* Evaluation and review
The indicative budget for this phase of work is £2,000 (to include VAT if chargeable) and all expenses and travel to Telford & Wrekin.
Timescales – completion by end March 2025.
