University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust
This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to combine NHS clinical activity with a formal commitment to academic clinical teaching and research. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a full-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. This post attracts 10 PA's in total, 6 PAs for NHS activities based at UHMB (Lancaster) with the remaining 4 devoted to an academic role at the School of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). This post gives the opportunity to join the oral and maxillofacial department to provide the restorative consultant input to which a formal university academic component is added.
The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with duties at UCLan in Preston and the potential for work at other NHS sites including serving both Lancashire and South Cumbria patients.
For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable.
Interview date 11th September 2024
Main duties of the job
The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLAN. The teams has recently been joined by an Honorary Consultant in Endodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area.
The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all aspects of restorative dentistry. The service provides advice and treatment plans to local dentists as well as enjoying multi-disciplinary working alongside colleagues in orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. The restorative service has developed a managed clinical network in South Cumbria for endodontics which supports the service. Discussions have started with the local commissioners about an MCN in restorative dentistry and the successful candidate would be able to become involved in developing this further. Links have been developed with Lancashire Teaching Hospital, the regional centre for Head and Neck cancer treatment to allow local patients to be treated locally.
