Job Introduction
BBC Radio Wiltshire serves audiences across a large and vibrant county, from Salisbury Plain to Swindon, Trowbridge to Tidworth. The county is known for its historic landscapes and monuments but is also a thriving business hub and commuter belt for many. It boasts a quarter of the British Army as well as other major employers such as Dyson & Nationwide. We’re committed to telling amazing stories from our communities and bringing in new audiences through creating content which generates impact on-air and on-demand. We’re looking for an experienced journalist to join our audio team, working predominantly as the Late Producer on our flagship Breakfast show. We want a true all-rounder, able to set up & produce live programmes and craft great audio for digital & linear. You may also be required to work on the news rota from time to time.
Main Responsibilities
We’re looking for a talented & creative journalist. You’ll work predominantly as the Late Producer on the Breakfast Show. You’ll be producing compelling content on a daily basis for a fast-paced four hour programme full of local news, essential information and much needed laughter. This role may, on occasion, involve reporting, live studio production, reading the news & working on multi-platform projects.
Are you the right candidate?
We’re looking for someone organised, self-motivated and happy working under pressure to tight deadlines. You will also:
* Have extensive experience of producing radio and audio programme content with a great on-air voice & style.
* Be well accustomed to writing for both news and programmes and adapting your style appropriately.
* Have a solid understanding of local radio and ideally, when required, the ability to turn your hand to live programme production.
* Know the BBC Radio Wiltshire patch, with an understanding of the stories that matter to our existing audiences and the audiences that we could do more to serve via linear & digital platforms.
* Be bursting with fresh ideas, creative treatments and great local contacts to make original and entertaining live radio and pre-packaged audio.
* Be good at taking ideas and running with them, as well as comfortable giving direction to other team members such as reporters and journalism co-ordinators.
* Have the ability to deliver brilliant local content for digital platforms or the willingness to learn.
* Know how to craft audio to make creative & engaging content that resonates with local communities and has the potential to travel further via digital platforms and social media.
* Ideally, you’ll have the skills (or be willing to learn) to support the wider team with news duties such as live reporting and news-reading.
* Have considerable journalism experience, with strong news writing skills.
* Have knowledge of the BBC’s digital platforms and social media.
