Job Purpose: To assist individuals and families in meeting their social care needs within legal and policy frameworks, enhancing their wellbeing, independence, and life quality, and protecting them from significant harm when necessary.
* Main Responsibilities:
Assess social work service needs, including risk identification and protection requirements, and determine intervention methods.
* Decide on or advise about the use of Children’s Social Care Services and other resources, liaising with professionals and agencies to ensure optimal service delivery.
* Manage a caseload according to group priorities and Authority policies, complying with statutory obligations, maintaining records, and performing administrative tasks.
* Prepare for supervision, attend meetings, engage in training, contribute to service evaluation and development, and supervise and train students and staff.
Qualifications:
To be compliant with professional standards, it is essential to have a CQSW/DipSW or an equivalent qualification, a PQ Child Care Award/BAAF or its equivalent, and an active SWE (Social Work England) registration. In addition to these qualifications, extensive experience in child care, especially in working with looked-after children, is crucial. This includes supervising foster carers, mentoring, planning, and delivering support, as well as a thorough understanding of information systems.
Key competencies include:
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to adapt positively during significant changes in social work.
* Effective time management and the capacity to work efficiently with service users, demonstrating initiative, and the ability to plan and manage casework independently.
* A proven track record of evidencing outcomes and the impact of interventions on a child’s journey, ensuring that young people’s voices are heard and their lived experiences influence their assessments and plans, and successful collaboration with partner agencies and colleagues from various disciplines.
