An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Staff Nurse to join our highly skilled and friendly team on Sanderson Suite.
The post holder should have substantial post registration experience within an acute surgical setting. Surgical Nursing knowledge is an essential aspect of this role.
Sanderson Suite is a Nurse Led Unit, caring for day case surgery patients in our state of the art facilities at St Helens Hospital. The Department is a challenging yet rewarding place to work, providing 5-star patient care to all of our visitors.
The Unit is open Monday to Saturday, and the successful candidate will be expected to work Saturdays as per duty rota.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.
Main duties of the job
* To provide pre and post-operative care and emotional support to patients and their relatives who are planned admissions for surgical procedures.
* To participate in the holistic assessment of patients, recognizing and organizing individual patient care needs, managing own workload and prioritizing care.
* To participate in the teaching of student nurses and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants, and to participate in the induction of new starters.
* To display a consistently professional manner, being caring and approachable.
* To commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the team leader.
* To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
* Teaching & Assessing or Mentorship Qualification/Training or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role
* Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues
* Knowledge of safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
* Knowledge of and participation in audit
* Awareness, understanding and application of research and development current evidence-based practices
* Awareness of how audit may influence the quality of patient care
* Substantial experience in an acute surgical setting
* Substantial experience within an acute hospital setting
Skills
* Excellent organisational skills
* Ability to negotiate and demonstrate a sound problem-solving approach to work issues
* Ability to set and establish priorities
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team
