An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join a dynamic, highly profitable and growing company based in Southampton. This business operates on an international scale and the successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the finance function, leading a small UK-based team while ensuring financial compliance across multiple territories. This role offers a hands-on leadership position in a fast-paced environment, ideal for a commercially minded finance professional looking to make a strategic impact.
What will the Financial Controller role involve?
Oversee the finance function, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and financial processes run efficiently.
Supervise and mentor the finance team, including the Management Accountant and Finance Assistant.
Lead the production of high-quality management reporting, including monthly reporting packs, cash flow forecasts, and individual project profitability analysis.
Take ownership of the annual budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
Manage cash flow across multiple bank accounts and international locations, optimising fund movements and foreign currency exposure.
Ensure full regulatory compliance, including preparation of financial statements, tax filings (corporation tax, PAYE, VAT), and statutory audits for both UK and Qatar operations.
Act as the primary liaison with external advisers, including auditors, tax specialists, banks, and insurance brokers.
Work closely with board members and senior management to provide financial insights and recommendations for business growth.
Regularly review and optimise company structures for overseas operations, ensuring the most effective financial arrangements are in place.
Suitable Candidate for the Financial Controller vacancy:
Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong technical and commercial acumen.
Proven experience in financial leadership roles, ideally within an international business setting.
Strong management skills, with the ability to develop and mentor a finance team.
Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
Experience with multi-currency treasury management and financial compliance across different jurisdictions.
Proactive and adaptable, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Strong IT skills, with the ability to optimise finance systems and reporting processes.
