We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed Phlebotomist to join our community phlebotomy service.
The post holder will provide venepuncture to patients in their own home. This is a community based role which requires access to a suitable vehicle and a willingness to drive throughout Sheffield.
Please note this is a part time position at 30hrs per week.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake domiciliary visits to housebound patients to collect venous blood samples using agreed equipment as requested by appropriate health care professionals.
2. Undertake domiciliary visits to housebound patients to collect and test capillary blood samples using agreed equipment as part of the organisations anticoagulation monitoring service.
3. Perform clinical practice to the agreed standards and consistent with safe practice.
4. Prepare specimens for transport ensuring correct collection, labelling and stability.
5. Effectively prioritise visits in accordance with sample requirements, geographical location and sample collection times.
6. Understand the importance of patient consent to treatment issues and appropriate clinical practice.
7. Understand the importance of patient identification procedures and apply to clinical practice.
8. Maintain privacy and dignity of all patients at all times.
9. Deliver specimens timely to the appropriate pick up points when required.
10. Report to the appropriate clinician (GP, district nurse etc) when there is concern for the health or wellbeing of the patient.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* 5 GCSE's (A/9-C/4) or equivalent experience/qualifications.
* NVQ level 2 in health and care or equivalent experience/qualifications.
* Trained in venepuncture with relevant certification.
Experience
* Previous experience working with members of the public.
* An understanding of the role of a community phlebotomist.
* Able to interact with people who feel vulnerable or anxious.
* Skilled in difficult venepuncture.
Skills
* Basic IT skills.
* Self-motivation and ability to prioritise daily workload.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Flexible and sensitive and able to cope with the changing needs of the role.
* Reliable.
* Applicants must hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.
