We’re looking for a Collections and House Manager to join our portfolio team at Ormesby Hall & Nunnington Hall.
What it's like to work here:
This role is based 4 days a week at Ormesby Hall and manages the collection team and volunteers, with one day a week at Nunnington Hall providing technical support.
Ormesby is undergoing a major change in how the house, estate, and collections will be used to better connect with the community. The collection consists of around 10,000 items, and we have been embarking on a project to improve conservation and collections management standards and storage of collections. This work has started, and we are now looking for the next person to continue this journey.
Ormesby is a site that sits heavily in an urban location and therefore attracts a very diverse audience. You will work with the Visitor Experience team to support interpretation, programming, and address access issues.
This role will involve duty management, weekend working, and being part of the portfolio leadership team.
What you'll be doing:
You'll be managing the strategic planning and day-to-day care of the key buildings and collections. You’ll work collaboratively with our internal colleagues and specialists, such as Curators and Conservators, to ensure the highest standards of conservation, care, and presentation of the collections and interiors to deliver an engaging visitor experience.
You'll manage the Collections Management Systems and Museum Accreditation requirements. Successful day-to-day care and operation of the house is core to the role, and you will be a key member of the Property Leadership Team. This will include being on the Duty Manager rota and working regular weekends.
Who we're looking for:
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
* Collections management experience in a museum or historic property environment, including inventory database and cataloguing.
* Understanding of Museum Accreditation (Spectrum) standards, collections care, and conservation.
* Strong understanding and good practice of preventive conservation and its application in diverse scenarios.
* Practical and successful experience of operations and delivering visitor experience in a museum, historic house, or visitor attraction.
* Leadership skills including coaching, team development, motivation, and communication.
