Salary: 45k per annum (Company Van, Work Mobile)
Work Pattern: Monday – Friday, 7am – 5pm (plus 2 Saturday mornings in 4)
Our client who is South Wales’s leading provider in waste management and partner for many large and small-scale construction projects, general landscaping, and large-scale commercial projects. Due to the companies continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Transport Logistics Planner to join their transport team. This is an opportunity for an experienced transport planner to join fast-paced modern traffic office, with an established customer base.
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport / Logistics Planner to join a dynamic transport team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing transport logistics within the construction, aggregates, or waste management sectors. You will be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for optimising routes, managing fleet resources, and ensuring timely deliveries. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be coordinating with drivers, clients, and internal teams. Key Responsibilities
As a Transport Planner, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimising the transport operations related to muck away services and soil and aggregate supply. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient coordination of vehicle movements, managing fleet resources, and either delivering or collecting materials to construction sites, and soil disposal locations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Duties:
To effectively and efficiently manage all transport related operations
* To liaise with other department heads to ensure the smooth running of the business
* To detail drivers and schedule vehicles to jobs in a cost effective and efficient manner
* To plan effectively to meet the needs of the customer base
* To sequence the routes in an efficient manner
* To manage the requirement & use of hired vehicles and sub-contractors
* To manage the requirement for and supervision of agency staff (drivers)
* To ensure drivers daily route sheets are fully completed.
* To troubleshoot operational problems/ issues as they arise
* To deputise for the Transport Manager as and when required
* To ensure weekly completion of driver’s overtime rota
* To liaise with the Transport Manager to schedule vehicle inspections & repairs
* To maintain/ update spreadsheets as required
* To assist Senior staff in the effective and efficient delivery of service
* Plus, other any other essential duties that may be required
Essential Experience
· Experience in a Management/ direct supervision position in a busy office environment with direct responsibility for Transport Operations
· A sound knowledge of H&S legislation, practice, and procedures
· Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a Team
· Flexible and positive approach to changing needs
· Able to work under pressure and meet tight timescales
· Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, written and verbal (including telephone)
· Demonstrate a professional approach to work
· Ability to respect and keep work issues confidential as appropriate
· Previous experience of supervising and managing driving staff
Desirable
· Drivers Hours Legislation
· Experience of producing/ updating spreadsheets and reports
· NVQ3 (or above) in a relevant discipline
· Membership of Professional Industry Body
· LGV Licence
· Drivers CPC
· Certificate of Professional Competence – National Freight
