Ara Poutama Aotearoa/The Department of Corrections currently have an exciting 6-month fixed-term opportunity for an Administration Officer to join our Bail Support Services team in Waitaha/Canterbury. This is a varied role working in a team with diverse skills and experience, so it's a great opportunity for someone wanting to gain exposure across various areas within the justice sector!
The Bail Support Services has been established to ensure courts are given the best information about safe and timely bail proposals, and provides the support necessary for defendants to succeed on bail if granted. They work alongside defendants, their whanau, defence counsel, and a range of community and government social service providers to prepare bail proposals and develop bail support plans for defendants.
Joining the team as an Administration Officer, you will be based in our Southern Regional Office in central Ōtautahi, dealing directly with the people we manage and supporting the Bail Support Services team members across the district.
The key responsibilities of your role will cover a wide range of administrative services including:
* Liaising with the organisations, services, and stakeholders we work with
* Processing files
* Preparing documents for Court
* Purchasing materials
* Record management and ensuring correspondence, reports and other documentation meet Department timelines and standards
* Providing team support and co-ordination e.g. co-ordinating meetings and documentation
This is a fixed-term opportunity from April – October 2025 with flexibility for an earlier start. The hours are regular business hours, Monday – Friday, with some flexible working where mutually agreed.

* A good working knowledge of office administration
* A pragmatic approach to problem solving
* The ability to organise effectively, be adaptable, multi-task and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders
* Resilience when dealing with difficult situations
* Understanding and respect for different cultures, including Māori and Pacific Peoples
* Sound knowledge and experience with computer software and database systems including MS Word, Outlook and Excel
You will need a Full New Zealand Driver Licence for this role.

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $62,084. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
