We have an exciting opportunity for a Cellular Therapy Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our cancer services team based at Royal Marsden Hospital Haemato-Oncology Unit.
You will use clinical expertise, leadership, and management skills to ensure co-ordination of the care of patients with a Haemato-oncology or oncology malignancy, providing a seamless service for patients and their families. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, which includes medical staff, and prescribing pharmacist will develop a model of care in providing support, assessment and education for this group of patients. As a registered nurse who has acquired additional specialist knowledge and experience you will have completed, or demonstrated the ability to complete all relevant courses and competencies. You will aim to have the expert skills and competencies required to manage a caseload within agreed boundaries and protocols in line with clinical governance, entwined around this clinical core are ties of consultancy, teaching, management and research and its application. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have substantial experience in a cancer nursing role.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist in the provision of professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient under your care, acting as a resource and consultant to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
2. To develop or contribute to the formulation of policies for cellular therapy development.
3. To develop or contribute to the formulation of patient information for cellular therapy.
4. To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team so as to achieve a synchronised specialist service.
5. To provide informal and formal teaching, for patients, staff and carers as relevant e.g. academic courses provided by The School related to CAR-T.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
6. The CNS will use advanced communication skills in all aspects of patient assessment, care and support.
7. To act as a key worker for a clinical caseload incorporating the responsibilities of the key worker role, working to coordinate care and provide easy and timely access for ongoing support for patients.
8. To lead in-depth discussions about the patients’ particular diagnosis, treatment options, including research based treatments with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise to enable patients to make an informed choice. To act as patient advocate when appropriate and respect patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
9. To influence the patient care pathway, refer to other professionals, and sign-post patients to other agencies and services as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATI ONS
Essential criteria
10. Registered Nurse with active NMC registration.
11. First level degree in related subject
12. Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
13. Post-basic qualification in Haemato-Oncology or relevant subject
14. Evidence of continued professional development
15. Be willing to undertake Trust CNS role development programme or be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies
Desirable criteria
16. MSc in advanced cancer practice
17. Level 2 psychological skills training as per recognised course or working towards
18. Advanced Communications Skills Training or working towards
19. Recognised teaching qualification or working towards
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

20. Relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in cancer or haematology

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
