Job Purpose:
The Plant Controller will oversee all financial functions at the plant, including financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with IFRS, while supporting operations in costing, analysis, and inventory management. Additionally, they will manage HR administrative tasks, payroll, internal controls, and ensure compliance with relevant government regulations and audits.
Responsibilities
Under the authority of our Corporate office, the Plant Controller will:
1. Prepare the complete set of financial statements of the company in compliance with IFRS;
2. Analyze and explain the financial performance against the budget and last year comparable;
3. Support Operations in the costing and analysis process;
4. Be responsible for the entire financial function at the plant, including cash, accounts receivable, inventory, capital assets, accounts payable, inter-company transactions and other related accruals and receivables;
5. Act as an advisor and provide support to the General Manager towards achievement of objectives and for various mandates;
6. Produce KPIs to help the General Manager have a better understanding of the business performance;
7. Lead the physical inventory counts and inventory valuation;
8. Analyze capital expenses projects;
9. Maintain the price lists of the products sold;
10. Prepare, coordinate, review and analyze the annual budget process;
11. Be responsible for all HR administrative functions;
12. Manage payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations;
13. Monitor and update forecasts;
14. Provide required reports to Corporate;
15. Monitor compliance with internal controls (52-109) and internal policies and implement corrective measures when required;
16. Participate in the preparation of the year-end audit file and in the audit itself;
17. Ensure continuous improvement of the processes of the function and take the means to increase their efficiency;
18. Ensure conformity with government authorities regarding regulations, sales tax, taxes and payroll;
19. Handle required government filings;
20. Manage workers' compensation filings.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting; accounting designations are considered an asset;
2. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Cost Accountant or Controller, with a background in accounting, manufacturing, and cost management, is required.
Skills and Attitude
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is not mandatory but considered an asset;
2. Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite;
3. Excellent collaboration skills;
4. Organized;
5. Attention to detail.
