Overall Purpose of the Job
This position is responsible for the day-to-day clinical services and management of administration services in the Australian Embassy Clinic Baghdad (AEB). This includes maintaining the highest possible level of patient care, patient medical support and customer service, business planning. The Registered Nurse provides clinical occupational nursing service, emergency nursing service and general nursing service for both in-patient and outpatients. Maintain and complete all administrative tasks and reporting as required to ensure high quality service delivery and compliance. The RN shall deliver medical services at the AEB facility from 0800 to 1730 local Iraq time, seven (7) days a week (including weekend and public holidays) and be available for “call-outs” after hours. As part of the medical services, the RN shall: Provide the first line of medical care for Service Provider Personnel, Australian Embassy Personnel, visitors and contractors, the management of all other in-country medical care and oversight, and coordination of any medical evacuations in consultation with Control Risks and the Client.
In the event of a medical emergency, provide life sustainment for up to 24hours, within the capacity of the medical facility and the RN and the telehealth facility, before transferring the patient to a higher level of care;
* maintain a process and the ability to provide time-critical trauma care;
* in the event of a mass casualty incident, provide direction of action management of injuries, assist with the management and evacuation of injured persons to higher levels of care and integrate other Service Provider Personnel into a triage and treatment process; provide nutrition information and offer dietary recommendations and coaching;
* provide regular health checks and monitor and manage existing injuries, illnesses and conditions;
* conduct preventative medicine and occupational health reviews and assessments (including food storage and preparation);
* provide refresher first aid training to all Control Risks Personnel at least annually and facilitate desktop and/or validation exercises/drills based on medical response scenarios at least bi-annually;
* in conjunction with Control Risks staff, assist with the supply of alcohol and drug testing kits, and undertaking random alcohol and drug tests on all contracted personnel in accordance with the SOPs, or as and when requested by the Client, and arrange for lab processing of those tests to obtain results. Any positive results must be reported immediately to Control Risks;
* maintain external liaison with other medical facilities located in other Embassies or Military bases;
* contribute to the preparation and maintenance of plans and liaise with other embassies in Baghdad for any medical emergency event, including evacuation coordination and assistance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
* Use clinical expertise and skills to accurately assess patient’s individual needs and to manage clinical priorities appropriately.
* To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care (if applicable), ensuring high standards of evidence-based care using a defined model of care
* Competently manage emergencies and critical care therapies i.e., Resuscitation, post resuscitation care, Endotracheal tubes, artificial ventilation, invasive monitoring (e.g., hemodynamic), inotropic therapy, paralyzing agents, and sedation)
* To analyse and interpret complex data derived from patient monitoring; plan, implement and evaluate appropriate care within agreed protocols e.g., blood gas and other laboratory blood test interpretation.
* Assist and co-ordinate required items for immobilization of fractures.
* Assist, co-ordinate and setup requirements for managing wounds that require suturing.
* Monitor and administer medication and intravenous infusions as per doctor's orders or standing protocols i.e., ACLS.
* Implement patient care orders by AC. Where instructions are not clear, seek clarification from the prescribing doctor.
* Maintain custody of control drug key and follow procedure in weekly, monthly, and quarterly checks of controlled drug stock counts.
* Co-ordinate and supervise the management and planning of nursing care.
* Possess a good working knowledge of patient rights in relation to consent & withdrawal of consent.
* To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with International SOS policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff, within own management responsibility.
* To communicate with patients, significant others and clients authorized person with empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care, and treatment.
* Maintain accurate medical records and nursing documentation in line with Intl.SOS medical records and medical data privacy policies.
* Liaise with Dubai Assistance Centre, medical director, and on-site medics, to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for patients being discharged back to site and other receiving facilities e.g.: air ambulance evacuation.
* Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs according to International SOS policy and procedures, including intra-venous medication and controlled medication.
* Read and understand the company's Infection Control P&P’s and maintain high level of infection control in the clinical work area and in routine execution of clinical activities.
* Be cognisant of blood borne pathogen, principles of universal precaution, and sharps safety.
* Report Incidents and accidents to Medical Director in a timely manner, and action any plans in a timely manner
* To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
* Maintain a safe environment for all staff, patients and visitors and ensure that all equipment is safe and in working order.
* To keep abreast of updated clinical practices, guidelines, policies, and procedures
* To participate in all clinical governance audit processes, implement, plan and evaluate action plans as required.

Required Work Experience (Brief description of the job-related experience needed to perform the job)
* A minimum of 5 years clinical experience in ICU or ER setting
* A minimum of 2-5 years management experience in a healthcare service delivery organization and Unit management in a large medical facility desirable
* Experience in a Clinical Training or Quality Management position or similar desirable,
* Experience in design and development of programs to meet desired performance standards

* A bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent
* Registered nurse in country of residence
* Relevant ICU/ER experience
* Intensive Care/Emergency room course desirable

* Graduate qualifications or suitable experience in Quality Management desirable
* Certified Basic Life Support provider
* Certified Advance Cardiac Life Support Provider
