Job Duties: Sprague Resources GP, LLC in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a Sr. Solar Engineer to lead the design and development of new Solar Tanks installed at Sprague facilities. Individuals will apply advanced theoretical knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles and concepts, as well as experience with PV solar engineering design to perform the following duties: Coordinate and manage solar tank design projects. Independently review and guide the work of junior Solar Engineers. Be a senior team member working to develop solar tank designs to offset energy use at Sprague as well as the development of solar tank projects within the terminal storage industry. Develop single & triple line diagrams, cable sizing requirements, solar panel layouts on structures and open ground areas. Prepare complex engineering calculations, BOQs, and procuring electrical equipment. Independently conduct site visits to analyze existing energy systems and interconnection points to provide feedback and suggestions. Oversee the design of solar arrays to function on top of storage tanks and other structures. Prepare complex engineering calculations such as: load flow, short circuit and reactive capability analysis (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), Cable ampacity study (CYMCAP or equivalent), grounding analysis, AC-DC voltage drop calculations, VOC/ISC calcs, and AC/DC Cable sizing. Provide Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for estimating budgets, and review with construction/installation teams. Develop procurement specifications for major equipment, including, but not limited to: solar modules, trackers, racking piles, inverters, transformers, SCADA, cable, cable management systems, etc. Assist junior team members to organize and optimize equipment and material quantities. Communicate with other Sprague departments to ensure an efficient installation process. Manage the interconnection applications for each new and existing solar projects. This position reviews and guides the work of junior level employees, but does NOT involve any management (i.e. hiring, firing, termination, discipline, compensation, or performance reviews). Minimum Requirements: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or any related Engineering field of study, plus at least two (2) Year(s) of experience in any related position(s) in which the required experience was gained. Position requires Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Qualified applicants must also have demonstrable proficiency, skill, experience, and knowledge (gained through education or coursework) with the following: 1) Building and construction standards (state and federal), including OSHA and EPA Regulatory standards 2) NFPA 3) AutoCAD and Helioscope 4) Excel and Microsoft Project 5) API 653 6) Demonstrated experience designing solar projects 7) Demonstrated experience with Class I Division I and Class I Division 2 environments 8) Demonstrated knowledge of Petroleum storage terminal standards, regulations, and best practices 9) Demonstrated knowledge with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards 15% of domestic travel.
