Job Summary JOB DESCRIPTION As a Principal Engineer specializing in 980 nm pump optical components, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and optimization of high-performance laser diode modules. Your expertise will contribute to cutting-edge technologies used in telecommunications, data centres, and industrial applications. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional, international teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovation in optical component design. Primary Duties & Responsibilities. Lead the design and development of 980 nm pump laser diode modules for power, density, cost and reliability. Conduct simulations, modelling, and coordinate experimental testing to validate designs. Form productive working relationships with NPI product and process engineering teams in manufacturing sites to ensure that products are delivered on time. Work closely with remote chip and manufacturing teams to ensure that products meet spec and cost targets. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape. Work closely with suppliers to develop the components necessary to optimise the end product. Provide technical guidance to project teams, resolving complex design challenges. Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning. Develop test plans and oversee validation and reliability testing. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Education & Experience Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field. Extensive experience (8 years) in designing and optimising optical components. Proficiency with thermal simulation and optical modelling Strong knowledge of semiconductor lasers and optical fibres. Strong knowledge of the processes used in the manufacture of optoelectronic devices. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical projects. The ability to use Solidworks or similar for product design would be an advantage. Skills & Other Requirements Demonstrated problem solving and work prioritisation skills.
