About The Role
Are you a solutions-focused health and safety professional looking for a role where you can set the standard for comprehensive health and safety within a growing environmental firm? Do you have a track record of overseeing H&S from differing industries or for employees working in different environments? Are you looking to help embed a culture of safety alongside a supportive HSEQ Director?
We are looking for a Head of Health and Safety to guide our UK&I business areas on the development and implementation of health and safety standards. You will be responsible for the safety of our people. This can incorporate employees who are office-based, home workers, or out in the field, from flights over offshore windfarms to field scientists in lakes and rivers sampling water quality or electrofishing. Your role will provide enhancing and maintaining a framework that supports safe working and compliant business growth.
You will engage directly with business unit leadership teams, understanding their unique H&S profiles across our Marine, Water, Land Sectors and Group Service functions in the UK&I. Our employees can be deployed on international projects so you will need to ensure that the right processes are being followed to abide by local laws. Through leadership of the H&S team, you will ensure a collaborative, consultative, and proactive approach to H&S is delivered by a competent H&S team with the ultimate goal of ensuring our teams are set up for safe delivery that is protective of their health and well-being.
To Be Considered For This Role, You Should
* Hold a CMIOSH qualification and a NEBOSH diploma.
* Have substantial management experience.
* Possess in-depth knowledge of UK & Ireland health and safety regulations and legislation.
* Have a proven track record of implementing H&S strategies across diverse environments—preferably in high-risk sectors such as aviation, marine, or remote terrestrial areas.
* Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle, enabling travel to remote work locations.
* Demonstrate a solutions-focused approach, proactively driving change and improvements rather than imposing unnecessary restrictions on the business.
APEM Group are a remote-first organisation; however, this role will involve regular travel and attendance at head office near Manchester twice a month (on average).
You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders, and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.
Next steps
We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part-time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.
