Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park. This position assists with improvement projects to grounds, trails, waterways, structures and wildlife habitat facilities, provides maintenance to vehicles and equipment and operates heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their experience in building trades by making minor repairs to plumbing, heating and air conditioning equipment, and/or electrical systems. The Hennepin Canal State Park is an ideal destination for picnicking, hiking, biking and fishing with segments of the trails open to horseback riding and snowmobiling in season. Essential Functions Under direct supervision, participates in semi-skilled work in the maintenance and operation of the Hennepin Canal Parkway and its satellites (Mautino SF&WA, Andalusia Waterfowl Area, Bradford Pheasant Area). Assist with the operation of the sites. Assist in implementing safety and security at the site. Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Cleans restroom and buildings. Serves as Lead Worker. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing. Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions. Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations. Valid Class A Illinois Commercial driver's license.
