We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and caring staff nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. We are a busy surgical ward where no two days are the same as we carry out both inpatient and day case surgery covering a wide range of surgical specialties.
We have a higher than national average nurse to patient ratio, enabling us to provide high quality, safe and compassionate care of which we are very proud.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. You will carry out nursing care without direct supervision, in a variety of hospital settings. The postholder may also be required to regularly supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff. Over a period of time with supervision in place, there will be opportunity to take charge in order to become familiar with dealing with a managerial and leadership role.
Duties will be commensurate with experience and responsibility in negotiation with the department manager.

Job Summary

* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing care
* Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* Ensure that steps are taken to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
* Demonstrate nursing skills to staff, patients, and relatives.
* Be aware of and practice professionally in accordance with the NMC code of conduct and the scope of professional practice.
* Ensure the privacy and dignity of all patients is paramount and not compromised.
* Work collaboratively across the organisation.
* Ensure the effective and efficient use of departmental resources both physical and financial.
Communication
* Co-operate and liaise with medical staff and all other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Communicate with the Sister on a daily basis regarding patient care.
* Develop knowledge, understanding and application of personal.
Education
* Ensure own compliance with regard to mandatory training and PREP requirements.
* Develop own clinical knowledge and participate in the development of others.
* Participate in an annual performance review to identify the postholder’s development needs.
Clinical Governance
1. Assist the ward / department Manager in audits and the development and implementation of action plans.
2. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
General
* Present a professional appearance which gives a positive image of Fairfield and a manner that is appropriate and inspires confidence.
* Attend regular meetings as requested by Management.
* Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care.
