The ocean's impact on life on Earth is vital. To understand its changes, SAMS is expanding its science team and strengthening research in physical oceanography and marine biogeochemistry.
SAMS is a leading institute in climate-scale ocean research, located on the west coast of Scotland, near the north-east Atlantic. We harness autonomous platforms and large-scale monitoring arrays.
We seek two Principal Investigators in Physical Oceanography to lead our research, generate world-leading outputs, and provide module leadership on our Marine Science BSc course.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Physical Oceanography and a strong background in mathematics and physics, with a focus on geophysical fluid dynamics. They will have experience leading research projects, managing staff, and securing funding.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead research projects in physical oceanography, focusing on numerical and/or theoretical/dynamical advances in climate-relevant processes.
* Develop and lead research initiatives, including grant writing and project management.
* Contribute to the development of our Marine Science BSc course and other educational programs.
* Supervise students and early career researchers.
