NHS Northamptonshire Talking Therapies Health service are looking for expressions of interest for a full time substantive post of Peer Support Worker. NHS Talking Therapies Northamptonshire Health is a developing service, committed to staff well-being and provision of quality psychological therapy following NICE guidance for treatment of comorbid common mental health and long term physical health conditions. The service, full of PWP, Senior PWP's and HIT therapists is expanding and aims to continue to build strong local community ties and with this aim as a focus there are numerous opportunities to work on creative projects and initiatives in the local area.
We are seeking enthusiastic candidates, with lived experience of both common mental health difficulties such as low mood or anxiety and a long term physical health condition such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, COPD or cancer & who may have accessed a Talking Therapies service (IAPT) previously. Candidates should be able to demonstrate they are committed to their own development within the service and are passionate about working creatively within the community.
Main duties of the job
1. To work one-to-one with people, listening, exploring their strengths, choices and supporting them in planning for their recovery from mental health distress related to a long term physical health condition.
2. Provide access to evidence-based information.
3. To help facilitate peer groups and educational groups.
4. Supporting psychological therapy within the service and be a positive image for people who have limited belief or experience of recovery and empower people to take positive risks in supporting their own recovery.
5. Will be supervised and supported by Senior Psychological Well-being Practitioners.
6. Reporting directly to the Service Leads.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Past experience of mental health difficulties.
* Experience of working within a team setting.
* Evidence of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem and to be able to demonstrate an ability to manage situations where a service user or carer is upset or distressed and act professionally and appropriately.
* Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care.
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
* Passion for recovery and empowerment.
* Able to organise and manage own workload and time effectively.
* Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.
