Senior Power Systems Engineer - Edinburgh - Offshore Wind
Eden Scott are pleased to be supporting their offshore wind developer client with the appointment of a Senior Power Systems Engineer. This represents an excellent opportunity for a Degree qualified Electrical Engineer with grid experience to join an entrepreneurial company and further develop their career.
Main Accountabilities
1. Electrical power systems lead for the electrical system modelling design
2. Apply the UK grid code to the power system design.
3. Manage specification writing and consultancy work scopes with associated delivery review for power system study requirements for the offshore windfarm to grid connection.
4. Specify design of reactive compensation and check electrical load calculations for plant and harmonic filters.
5. Work with electrical cable, plant and wind farm engineers as well as electrical protection and control system engineers during design stages.
6. Work within a multidisciplinary engineering design team and be able to explain complex power system models and results to the team to progress the design.
7. Support the Electrical Engineering Manager with monthly design reviews, power systems-related decision making, engineering risk management, budgeting and programme
8. Support project technical engineering meetings with other engineering stakeholders both internally within the organisation and externally.
9. Support the Grid Manager in preparation of annual DRC submissions to the System Operator.
10. Support the regulation manager in interpretation and development of relevant system code changes and developments.
Minimum requirements
11. Bachelor or Masters in Electrical Engineering
12. Experienced power systems engineer modelling both wind turbine generator and transmission systems.
13. Experienced power system analyst modelling with software tools for static and dynamic studies for generation systems connecting to the UK grid.
14. Understanding and application of the UK grid code and modelling standards for connection of offshore generators to the UK grid.
15. Have experience of working with OEMs in relation to modelling requirements for grid code compliance.
16. Have a good understanding of relevant standards applicable to primary electrical plant for modelling purposes
17. Have knowledge and practical experience of using modelling tools such as DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSSE, PSCAD for example
18. Experience of application of CDM to projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team
19. Detail oriented and systematic approach to design
20. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Power Point and Word
21. Exceptional written communication and presentation skills.
22. Willingness to travel where required.
Salary: Up to £75,000 dependent on experience + Bonus of up to 20%
