The Principal Engineer will take a role in providing expert support, advice, and guidance to senior management while also mentoring junior staff. Their primary responsibility will be managing the development, review, design, consultation, and delivery of various parking-related schemes. These projects include controlled parking zones (CPZs), disabled parking provisions, electric vehicle (EV) charging points, and cycling infrastructure such as cycle hangars and dockless cycle parking.
In this role, the Principal Engineer will be accountable for overseeing the entire lifecycle of parking-related schemes, from initial design through to delivery, while ensuring compliance with technical standards and methodologies. They will also manage procurement and contract processes related to these works. The engineer will play a critical part in supporting the Parking Policy and Projects team, which includes four vacant positions. This team will work on projects like CPZs, disabled parking, and promoting cycling by providing infrastructure such as cycle hangars and dockless cycle parking to meet increasing demand for sustainable transportation options like cycling and electric vehicles.
The ideal candidate for this role should possess strong technical expertise in engineering, with a solid understanding of analytical methods, design principles, and technical standards. They should have experience successfully delivering highways or transport projects across at least two areas of engineering. Additionally, the role requires a relevant degree in Engineering or Transportation (or an equivalent qualification) along with a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience in a senior role. Alternatively, five years of relevant experience in engineering-related projects is also acceptable
