Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Unix Engineer to join a dynamic team within the financial services sector. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Unix/Linux systems administration, project delivery, and automation, combined with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
* System Administration: Install, configure, troubleshoot, and administer middle-tier applications in Linux environments, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
* Storage Management: Configure enterprise storage on Unix/Linux systems, adhering to RHEL 6/7/8 standards and group requirements.
* Cluster Management: Install and configure Veritas Cluster Server or InfoScale as per group standards to support business-critical systems.
* Project Delivery: Participate in and lead project initiatives, implementing new tools, automating processes, and improving system resilience.
* Support: Provide production support, including weekend and overnight work as required for project releases, vulnerability patching, and OS migrations.
* Observability & Monitoring: Collaborate with application teams to set up observability solutions, including dashboards, visualization, and monitoring. Provide consultancy on self-healing solutions using tools like Splunk, AppDynamics, and ThousandEyes.
* Automation & Integration: Develop and deploy automation scripts to reduce operational overhead, and seek opportunities to integrate Splunk with other monitoring tools.
* Compliance: Adhere to company policies, procedures, and controls while escalating potential risks or issues as appropriate.
Required Skills & Experience
* Experience: Over 8 years as a Linux System Administrator in complex, enterprise environments.
* Technical Expertise:
* Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 6/7/8).
* Proficiency with Veritas Foundation Suite or InfoScale and Veritas Cluster Server (minimum 5 years).
* Exposure to enterprise storage arrays (e.g., EMC VMAX, NetApp NAS) and LVM configuration.
* Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMWare.
* Tools: Experience with ServiceNow, Confluence, and Jira is preferred.
* Automation: Proficiency in at least one scripting language; knowledge of Ansible, Puppet, or similar tools is desirable.
* Networking & OS Fundamentals: Strong understanding of Linux/Windows operating systems and networking principles.
* Documentation: Ability to update and maintain technical documentation effectively.
* Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills to build relationships across business and technology teams.
Desirable Skills
* Knowledge of Oracle and Storage Management.
* Familiarity with self-healing infrastructure design and observability trends.
