About the role : Horsham District Council is looking for a Licensing Assistant (Maternity Cover) to join our Licensing team, a small but busy service dealing with the effective and efficient discharge of licensing functions. As a Licensing Assistant you will issue licences and permits in addition to carrying out routine activities in connection with the licensing of premises, persons and specialist function/s of the Licensing and Environmental Health service. You will support the Licensing Officers and report to the Principal Licensing Officer. Your work will include being the first point of contact for service and will involve dealing with a variety of enquiries, applications, complaints and project work. Day to day activities will be centred around, but not limited to, the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, pavement licensing, scrap metal and legislation regulating the licensing of private hire and hackney carriage drivers, vehicles, operators. This is a maternity cover post, initially to 31 st December 2025 or on return of the postholder. About you: To succeed as Licensing Assistant you will be hard working and dedicated, possess experience of office administration including the ability to use IT equipment and associated packages. You will have great customer service experience skills and be able to build a good working rapport with internal and external contacts. You will also have good working knowledge and an understanding of the various legislative frameworks we work within (or a strong willingness to learn).
