An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal SEN Lawyer to join a well-regarded public sector legal team. This role involves leading a team providing expert legal services on Special Educational Needs (SEN) and broader education law matters, ensuring compliance with statutory duties while advising on complex and high-profile cases.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide high-quality legal advice on SEN matters, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Tribunal proceedings.
* Lead, manage, and supervise a team of lawyers, allocating work and ensuring service delivery.
* Represent the organisation in courts and tribunals, conducting advocacy and instructing Counsel where required.
* Develop and deliver legal training to stakeholders, ensuring best practices in SEN law.
* Oversee and manage a politically sensitive caseload, advising on legislative changes and best practice approaches.
* Support and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring effective and compliant legal services.
About You:
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with significant experience in SEN and education law.
* Strong knowledge of local government legal frameworks, including school admissions and exclusion appeals.
* Proven ability to lead, manage, and supervise legal professionals, ensuring high standards of service.
* Skilled advocate with experience representing clients in tribunals and courts.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to manage high-profile and complex legal matters.
