De Beers Innovation and Testing Engineer
De Beers has a dynamic portfolio of internal innovation initiatives spanning new business models, products, services, and process innovations aimed at optimizing the current profitable core business and building new business. Our integrated innovation function – De Beers Group IgniteTM – focuses on:
1. The identification, research, venturing, and deployment of new processes, connected technology products and services, and new business models to maximize innovation value for De Beers.
2. Building on existing foundations to commercialize technologies to third parties, growing profitable new revenue streams.
This role's main purpose is to provide functional, performance, and reliability testing expertise within the De Beers development team. It involves developing, conducting, and documenting test cases for various products, following De Beers Group Technology standards and procedures.
* Adhere to safety and environmental standards, ensuring tests are conducted safely.
* Conduct thorough testing of automated diamond sorting machines and instruments, following test cases and suites managed in TestRail or DevOps.
* Set up and operate testing equipment, simulating real-world conditions to evaluate performance and reliability.
* Perform functional, performance, and reliability testing to identify improvements and bugs in software and hardware.
* Collaborate with engineering disciplines such as electronics, PLC/software development, mechanical design, and product management.
* Document and visualize test results accurately, communicating findings to the team and stakeholders.
* Assist in developing and managing test plans and cases for comprehensive coverage.
* Provide feedback for product improvements, raising and managing bugs identified during testing.
* Undertake machine setup and maintenance, ensuring equipment is in good working order.
* Demonstrate and practice De Beers' values and ways of working, collaborating effectively within the team.
Qualifications:
* Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
* Passionate about problem solving and data-driven decisions.
* Experience with electro-mechanical systems like CNC or automation; laser experience is a plus.
* Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and communicating findings.
* Experience designing and running experiments to validate hypotheses.
* Strong analytical skills for data interpretation.
* Timely problem resolution abilities.
* Experience working in an agile environment.
* Commitment to continuous learning and technology awareness.
* Preferably, a minimum of BSc in mechanical or relevant engineering disciplines.
