Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen to join our Bd6 team on the Neuro/Trauma ICU at UHP on our 10 bedded unit. We are looking for both Jnr Srs/CNs & Advanced RNs at band 6.
For Critical Care nurses who have recently completed the ICU course, we are pleased to offer Advanced RN bd 6 posts. In this role, you will be on a 2-year programme to consolidate the skills & knowledge gained on the course, whilst working alongside & supervising Assistant Practitioners in ICU.
Demonstrably experienced Bd 6s will join our team of Jnr Srs as team leaders. In this role, you will take charge of the unit on a regular basis and be recognised as a positive, professional, and motivating role model for junior colleagues.
On Pencarrow, patients are admitted with multiple injuries, acute brain injuries, spinal injuries, and require multi-system support. If you are highly motivated and have demonstrable experience as an ICU RN, we would like to hear from you. This will be a new and exciting challenge where you will have the opportunity to develop your management, leadership, and clinical skills.
Main Duties of the Job
To be recognised as a clinical expert within the critical care environment, coordinating the delivery of high standard nursing care following individual assessment of each patient & implementation of care plans, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.
As a Jnr Sister & shift leader, you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of high standard care, acting as an exemplary senior nurse role model. You will ensure that patients are always cared for in a safe environment & provide expert clinical advice as needed.
To act as deputy to the nominated Senior Sister and be responsible for meeting the NMC requirements in line with the Code of Professional Conduct for their scope of responsibility.
B6 Advanced RN Post - Year 1 and 2
* Consolidation of Critical Care course
* Clinical development – working with TAPS/IR nurses/new B5 nurses
* Management – shadowing Nurse in charge
* Commence Manager Passport
* Completion of Neuro step competencies
At first Gateway move into Junior Sister post on successful completion of above.

Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility
Clinical
* Ensure high standards of clinical practice in accordance with agreed policies, procedures, and standards.
* Provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care by initiating and coordinating the comprehensive assessment, planning, and evaluating of individual patient needs based on evidence and use of relevant nursing models.
* Coordinate, report, and document any relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals with ongoing responsibility for patient care as they occur.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current RN registration with the NMC
* Proven evidence of continued and recent academic clinical development
* Post basic course relevant to critical care nursing or equivalent
* Critical Care Network Step Competency 3
* Proven evidence of study at degree level
* Leadership course
* Critical Care Network Step Competency 4 Critical Care Network Step Neuro
Knowledge and Experience
* Registered nurse with demonstrable experience at registered nurse in Critical Care
* Demonstrably experienced in caring for Neurosurgical and Trauma ICU patients
* Recognised as advanced in terms of nursing practice, in aspects of care such as haemodynamic monitoring, ventilation, ICP management.
* Previous demonstrable experience in a leadership capacity.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness at all levels.
* Effective influencing skills; in general and with senior health care professionals.
* Ability to facilitate change within the work area.
