Due to retirement, we are looking to recruit a new GP and/or Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our team to cover between 4 and 6 sessions per week. Isca Medical Practice is a friendly training practice providing exceptional care to around 5,600 patients all over Exeter. The surgery runs a daily duty system and pre-booked clinics. We have excellent patient access and benefits from being a member of Nexus PCN, which has a full complement of pharmacy, wellbeing, dietetic, physio and occupational therapy teams.
We are looking for a doctor or Nurse Practitioner who shares our ethos to join our team for up to 6 sessions per week. Initially this will be a salaried position, but partnership may be an option in the future.

Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous practitioner within the team, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the PMS contract.
Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC or NMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
The Practice prides itself on achieving a high QOF score and 'good' CQC rating and is committed to providing excellent patient care and quality improvement.
About us
We have a strong track record for supporting our trainees and new doctors, with our previous registrar joining us as a salaried GP. We have two dedicated partners who are both GP trainers and host medical students from Exeter Medical School. We have a strong nursing team, which includes a specialist diabetic nurse.
ISCA Medical Practice is based on Polsloe Road and has two buildings, with 7 consultation rooms, a teaching room, kitchen and plenty of parking. We are walking distance to Waitrose and Exeter City Centre.
Job description
We are looking for a GP and/or ANP from January 2025 onwards to replace a retiring GP.
We will support you in your clinical and educational needs and are happy to accommodate any special interests.

Job responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
1. To have clinical responsibility for a registered patient list and maintain appropriate records of treatment given and NHS services provided following GMC guidance and good clinical practice using SystmOne.
2. Offer and carry out consultations and where appropriate physical examinations for the purposes of identifying and reducing the risk of illness disease or injury including immediately necessary and temporary residents.
3. In accordance with the Practice rota as agreed, make him or herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, checking, validating and answering medication queries, signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with results, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
4. Advise patients on general health matters and significance of risk activities e.g. tobacco and alcohol consumption, misuse of drugs.
5. Arrange for referral of patients, as appropriate, for the provision of any other service utilising pathways provided by the ICB.
6. Provide family planning and contraceptive services.
7. Undertake medication reviews.
8. Provide ante and post-natal services integrated with the community midwives.
9. Active participation and co-operation in the management arrangements of the practice and in the work of the practice team and wider community health team.
10. Work collaboratively with the team to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of chronic disease management for our patients.
11. Contribute and maintain strong communication with the other agencies for whom care is being given to patients from who the practitioner is responsible e.g. local complex care team, hospital at home, rapid response team.
12. Work alongside clinical and admin colleagues to deliver the highest care for the practice patients.
13. Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and correctly coded records to relevant professional and Practice standards and guidelines.
Teaching and Training
1. Undertake regular GP Appraisal and revalidation.
2. Participate in the educational and training events of the Practice and wider community.
3. Assist where appropriate with the training of under and post graduate students and GP registrars.
4. Share knowledge with the team and support staff.
Teamwork
1. Work as an effective and responsible team member supporting other members of the clinical and non-clinical staff in a flexible and approached manner.
2. Understand own role and scope within the practice team and identify how this may develop.
3. Participate in team activities that create opportunities to improve patient care e.g. meet with patient group occasionally.
4. Ensure clear understanding of practice systems, referral mechanisms and policies to meet patient needs.
5. Lead or participate in projects of specific areas of work as required.
Information
1. Review enter and process data using accurate Read codes and good record structure.
2. Understand and follow the requirements of confidentiality including the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information and refer to Caldicott Guardian and IG Lead any queries or concerns.
3. Follow Practice Policy on use of email and computer tasks as the main internal method of nonverbal communication.
Rota
All staff are expected to contribute to the working of the Practice in whatever way is necessary to deliver care for our patients and some flexibility is required in hours worked from time to time. The working week will be made up of number of clinical sessions including routine surgeries, duty doctor surgeries on a rota, telephone consultations, video consultations, F2F consultations, visits, meetings and clinical admin. The post holder will normally work regular days or sessions each week but this may vary according to holidays and other requirements of the rota thus flexibility is necessary and expected.
Non-NHS Services
The practice carries out usual additional non NHS services for its patients and the post holder will take part in this. Monies earned are payable to the Practice.
CONFIDENTIALITY
In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, the practice Health & Safety Manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include:
1. Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.
2. Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
3. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
4. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
5. Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.
6. Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role.
7. Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually).
