The Transpennine Route Upgrade Project (TRU) is a circa £2b multi-disciplinary project upgrading the existing railway route between Manchester and Leeds through the Pennines. It is the largest rail and infrastructure project in the north of England over the next 5 years.
Your mission
* Manage the implementation of the Material Procurement Plan in collaboration with the project team from tender to closeout of the project; this includes generating requests for quotations for materials.
* Negotiate rates/terms and conditions, use of VE alternatives to produce better outcomes for BAM.
* Report buying gains against budget allowances.
* Ensure effective purchase requisition/purchase order creation on SAP MM.
* Support your team to ensure all business and departmental deadlines and targets are met.
* Work in accordance and remain up to date with current established procedures and processes and provide feedback on their effectiveness.
* Manage supplier relationships and develop these with operations, commercial, and estimating teams.
* Support the business with performance and supply issues, including monitoring the financial health of material suppliers.
* Engage with H&S, Sustainability & Social Value teams.
* Support Prompt Payment.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced procurement professional, potentially qualified to degree level in a relevant subject. You will be able to demonstrate your experiences in adding value through commercial and procurement activities and will show commitment to helping the project achieve its efficiency targets.
* You will be analytically strong, articulate, and able to express your vision clearly. You will have good interpersonal skills, allowing you to develop relationships within the organisation.
* You will have a good understanding of contractual issues, knowledge of purchasing and supply chain management, and experience and knowledge of supplier/customer markets.
* Demonstrable expertise in procurement of civil engineering materials.
* You have a good knowledge and experience of the supply chain, both material and potentially subcontract.
* You are a team player with good management and people skills.
* You will feel comfortable working both independently and within a team.
* You have strong written and oral expression skills in English.
* Ability to manage priorities and work on your own initiative.
* Competent with IT and open to supporting new systems (SAP MM experience is a bonus).
* CIPS qualified or studying towards it (beneficial but not mandatory).
* Willingness to travel for meetings across the TRU Project.
