Job Description
As Transport Shift Manager, you will be responsible for the late shift overseeing 16 vehicles and up to 38 drivers. You will manage the drivers' schedules, driver microlise gradings and infringements, and ensure that customer POD requests are actioned. You will also be responsible for the Transport controller who will report directly to you.
Shift: 05:30-13:30, Monday to Friday
Role Responsibilities:
* Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels.
* Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports and monitoring of defects being raised.
* Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource.
* Manage the resourcing for the site through effective planning of both core drivers and shift patterns through to daily and weekly resourcing of agency drivers.
* Manage holiday allocations of drivers ensuring there is enough resource to meet customer requirements.
* Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
* Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
* Manage any incidents and accidents and follow the process through investigations and the EOA system.
* Be responsible for Kronos monitoring and approving drivers clocking on and off shift.
* Ensure that the Transport team and drivers comply with all relevant regulations and site procedures.
* Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time and the relevant paperwork is obtained.
* Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
* Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
* Generate and implement ideas regarding staff and operational changes to help drive continuous improvement.
* Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
* Manage and carry out monthly site audits ensuring that all processes are being followed in line with Culina Group policy.
Qualifications
* Good commercial knowledge of transport operations including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment.
* Previous supervisory experience within a busy transport environment.
* Planning and organizing skills with a high level of numeracy.
* Excellent negotiating skills with the ability to influence and steer.
* Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team.
* An effective communicator at all levels, with good verbal and written skills.
* Personal motivation and confidence resulting in a positive impact.
* Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team.
* Highly tolerant of change – able to work within an evolving organization.
* Ability to challenge the status quo and drive changes in the business.

* National and International CPC qualification – desirable.
