Job Purpose:
As a key member of the Executive Team, the Head of Operations will lead and continuously improve operational performance, championing a collaborative and inclusive culture. This role holds full accountability for the production site, including Health & Safety, performance KPIs, and operational cost control.
Within the role, you will lead our Operational teams of 200 people and be responsible for four key areas of the business: Production, Warehouse, Health & Safety, and Maintenance.
Head of Operations duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Run the day-to-day
* Lead on all operational matters.
* As part of the Executive Team, help shape the future of Operations, supporting strategy creation at both a tactical and strategic level.
* Drive the performance of the departments focusing on service levels, quality, consistency, and cost of goods sold.
* Lead, mentor, and coach the Production, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Health, Safety & Facilities Managers.
* Ensure all departments are adequately resourced, using capacity plans & scheduling to ensure we are successfully meeting Customer demand.
* Own and manage budgeting and P&L across all operational departments.
* Maximise efficiency without compromising production standards, ensuring that returns and remakes are kept to a minimum.
* Ensure product delivery exceeds customer expectations and delivers excellence, working closely with the relevant stakeholders where required.
* Be accountable for overall agency labour spend, ensuring a reasonable time-to-hire process is in place.
* Ensure a robust asset management system is in place, backed up by effective use of available systems.
* Report on key performance indicators, creating the right measurements to demonstrate success and drive operational excellence.
* Manage and take responsibility for the financial performance of all Operations departments.
Improve the day-to-day
* Perform & manage a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis to successfully train and develop people across all teams within the departments.
* Implement & develop standard operating procedures across all appropriate departments, ensuring that they are accessible to all as well as being utilised on a daily basis.
* Ensure the effective use of visual management across the department to drive local improvement and set the foundation of a high-performance culture.
* Actively champion process improvement with the aim of increasing efficiency & quality across the department.
* Champion cross department collaboration to drive continuous improvement, utilising the expertise available across the company.
* Supporting the business as required in growth opportunities, in conjunction with the commercial team as required.
Risk
* Risk management – identifying and minimizing risk, early identification of potential problems, escalating where necessary to the relevant stakeholder.
* Ensure all departments and projects are managed in accordance with H&S best practice.
* Maintain full compliance with all relevant legislation, commercial contract requirements, maintenance standards and associated policies & procedures and accredited quality standards.

Essential Requirements for the role:
* Right to work in the United Kingdom.

* Over 5 years Operational management experience within a challenging environment is essential, preferably within a Manufacturing environment.
* Over 3 years’ experience of leading a senior operational team desirable.
* Excellent Written and oral communication skills.
* Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.
* Comprehensive understanding of H&S and Employee Relations regulations.
* Recognised relevant qualification (such as Lean Six Sigma or others).
* Experience of managing multiple contracts with over £1m turnover each.
* Strong multi-discipline experience in a similar environment.
* Management of direct & outsourced service delivery.
