What will I be doing?
The role of a Shot Peen / Plater is to prepare parts by Shot peening to ensure the surface is ready for electroplating. Also, assist the plating department in the preparation, pre-treatment, and plating of aircraft components to CMM repairs and specifications.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Masking parts for Peening
2. Preparing parts for the plating process
3. Using Planning tools to prioritise work list
4. Reporting issues to the engineering team effectively
5. Electrical circuitry and Surface Finishing - Chromium, Nickel and Cadmium
6. Prepare and mask up components during the pre-plating process
7. Set up tooling, fixtures and assist in new tooling design
8. Use a wide and varied range of precision measuring equipment
9. Read component maintenance manuals, complex drawings and engineering layout information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to complete repairs of parts within specified dimensions and tolerances
10. Diagnose vat, electrical or tooling malfunctions to determine need for adjustment or repairs
11. Adhere to COSHH and safe use of chemicals
12. Operation of de-embrittlement and stress relief
13. Delivery of components to the next process
14. Working on priorities from PAC 1
15. Operation of cranes
16. Working from SOPs
17. Understanding and mapping of CMM
18. Cleaning, Masking, Heating and Waxing Components
19. Calculating plating thickness and plating times
20. Measuring components using internal/external micrometers/comparators/bore micrometers/verniers/elcrometers
21. Monitoring line to check vats are at correct temperature and rectifiers are at correct amperage
22. 5s checks
23. Part marking
24. Passivation & passivation 124
25. Weekly maintenance tasks
26. Grit blasting, strip chrome, Shot peening, strip cad & strip sermetel

Job Requirements
1. An Engineering/Plating Apprenticeship or equivalent ideally gained in the aerospace or automotive sectors
2. IMF Foundation / Technician Qualification or equivalent
3. High attention to detail with strong quality awareness
4. Excellent communication skills

8. Self-managing and reliable
