Job Duties
Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for Athletic Trainer position. This candidate will assist the sports medicine staff with the care of student-athletes. The position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses, including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
Duties include, but not limited to, electronic documentation of patient encounters; coordination and implementation of injury prevention protocols; patient and staff education and communication as a strategy to mitigate risk of injury; communication with coaching staff regarding the injury status of student-athletes; providing medical care for assigned student-athletes per standard sports medicine operating procedures as directed by the Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine.
The successful candidate will travel with assigned teams up to two sport seasons per academic year. The athletic trainer must be present for all team practices for assigned teams. The work schedule requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evenings.
The physical requirements for work is medium demand, including lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent carrying/lifting objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table and assist ambulation, in case of injury.
The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Candidate must have a Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.
2. BOC certification and eligible for State of Virginia licensure.
3. Candidate must demonstrate an ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Minimum two years of experience in athletic training at the collegiate level.
