About this Opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council have identified climate change and biodiversity as key priorities and are seeking a highly organised, motivated, and dedicated Senior Manager who will lead and manage four teams of specialists, including Nature, Climate, and Ecology. You will enable these teams to fulfil their statutory and policy functions and ensure the development and delivery of the Council’s Climate Change, Adaptation, and Nature Recovery programmes.
As the Senior Manager – Climate and Nature, you will have excellent knowledge of climate change, climate adaptation, and nature and biodiversity recovery. You will be passionate about the Council’s long-term ambition to oversee and deliver significant programmes of work that address the climate and biodiversity crisis.
You will need a keen eye for detail and a proven track record of managing complex programmes alongside high-profile partner organisations such as Natural England, Environment Agency, other Local Authorities, and National Parks. Your role is key to working effectively with Officers, Cabinet Members, Partners, Communities, and stakeholders across the Council and our area.
In addition, you will negotiate on behalf of the Council for external funding and find innovative solutions in preparing the Council for the long-term effects of climate change and halt the decline of species. This is a high-profile role, part of the Climate and Natural Environment Service within the Thriving Place Directorate and reporting to and acting on behalf of (as required) the Assistant Director for Climate and Natural Environment.
