Job Title: Site Engineering Lead
Location: Glasgow Region
Salary: £55k to £60k
Protea Recruitment is currently working with a client in the food manufacturing sector who is seeking a hands-on Site Engineering Lead. This role requires a proactive leader with a 50/50 mechanical and electrical skillset to oversee maintenance activities, drive performance improvements, and ensure the smooth operation of a fast-paced manufacturing site. While automation experience would be beneficial, it is not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the engineering department, ensuring a balanced mix of mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain and improve production efficiency
* Develop and implement the site’s engineering strategy, focusing on maximising overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and minimising downtime
* Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the engineering team, fostering a strong culture of continuous improvement
* Oversee planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
* Hands-on involvement in troubleshooting and fault-finding of both mechanical and electrical systems.
* Support automation initiatives where applicable but maintain a strong focus on practical, hands-on engineering solutions.
* Manage engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment
* Effectively communicate engineering strategies and progress to senior stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:
* Hands-on engineering leader with a strong background in food manufacturing or FMCG environments.
* Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in engineering, or extensive relevant experience in a leadership role.
* Proven experience managing and developing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong 50/50 mechanical and electrical maintenance skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns effectively.
* Experience with automation and controls would be beneficial but is not essential.
* Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and adaptable approach.
* Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
* Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.
