The Transport Planning Manager will oversee the strategic and operational planning of transport activities, ensuring seamless delivery operations in the Uk across 3 sites. This role involves leading a team of Transport Planning Supervisors and Transport Operators, driving efficiency in routing and resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The position emphasises achieving key performance indicators (KPIs), fostering continuous improvement, and maintaining exceptional standards of customer service while optimising budgetary performance.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the daily and long-term planning of transport activities, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and adherence to delivery schedules.
* Develop and implement strategies to optimise fleet efficiency and reduce operational costs.
* Monitor compliance within UK and EU transport regulations, ensuring that Supervisors and Operators enforce these standards within their teams.
* Lead and mentor the Transport Planning Supervisors and operators, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
* Conduct regular performance reviews and provide developmental opportunities to ensure the growth and effectiveness of the supervisory team.
* Establish and maintain high customer service standards, ensuring timely resolution of issues and proactive communication with key stakeholders.
* Support Supervisors and wider team in addressing escalated delivery challenges and provide solutions to meet customer expectations.
* Analyse and evaluate operational KPIs, using data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement.
* Lead the preparation of comprehensive performance reports for senior management and key business stakeholders.
* Ensure that Supervisors and operators consistently track and report on operational performance metrics.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements within transport planning and execution.
* Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing empty miles, and improving delivery accuracy.
* Promote a safety-first culture across all transport operations, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
* Maintain compliance with the Working Time Directive (WTD) and tachograph regulations.
Experience/Skills
* Extensive experience in senior transport planning or operations management roles.
* Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, including supervisors and operational staff.
* Strong understanding of transport systems, industry regulations, and best practices.
* Strong commercial and business development experience.
* Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and improve profitability within transport operations.
* Proficient in transport management systems (TMS) and relevant software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
* In-depth knowledge of tachograph regulations, Working Time Directive (WTD), and Driver’s Hours regulations.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* CPC International Qualification (Essential)
* IOSH Qualification (Desirable)
