Design Development Engineer
Job Title: Design Development Engineer (Permanent)
Location: Cheltenham (hybrid working available) & occasional project works at other UK based sites
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum plus benefits
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday days, early finish Friday
This is a wide-ranging role within multiple project teams, and a critical role in serving the international customer base in design, development, and industrialisation of current and new fluidic control solutions for a wide variety of space-based propulsion applications.
Skills & Attributes
1. Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering to at least 2:1 standard.
2. Minimum 5 years post qualification work experience in the space/aerospace industry.
3. Proven experience with CAD for generating 3D models. Detail drafting for manufacture would be advantageous but not essential.
4. Ability to perform structural analysis using FE software for static and dynamic analysis to justify designs against launch vibration and fluid pressure requirements would be advantageous.
5. Experience with test rig design, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for fluid systems with the ability to write detailed operating procedures. LabView experience would be advantageous.
6. Ability to work effectively with various customers, suppliers, etc.
7. Proven knowledge of the design, manufacture, and test of aerospace or space products.
8. Good familiarity with valve, mechanism, or propulsion designs.
9. Familiar with design, sizing/calculation methods and material selection.
10. Familiar with mechanical hardware and test equipment, and clean room practices.
11. Strong problem-solving abilities – including root cause analysis.
12. Capable of setting and achieving objectives and adhering to deadlines and budget.
13. Strong working knowledge of safe working practice (including for high pressure gas systems).
Duties
1. Design of fluid system components such as electro-mechanical valves and/or mechanisms.
2. Full participation in customer programmes as designated development engineer.
3. Procedures for assembly and test of development and qualification hardware.
4. Generation of technical documentation to company and customer Quality standards.
5. Provide input in engineering design in line with Quality standard AS9100 and ISO9001.
6. Generate design and compliance documents using CAD, finite element and/or data acquisition packages (i.e.: Pro Engineer, Ansys, LabView).
7. Work to support the company’s commitment to safe working – on both site-based activity and design principles.
8. Support as required with other related engineering activity including propulsion systems and chemical rocket engine developments.
