1. Timely and Accurate Clinical Coding
Codify complex clinical data promptly, adhering to National Clinical Coding Standards and Local Clinical Coding Policies. Extract, analyze, and codify detailed clinical information related to a patient's diagnostic and procedural status within their episode of care.
2. Data Quality and Compliance
Ensure that all codified data is of high quality and accurate, fully compliant with relevant standards and policies. Enter codified data into the Patient Administration System (PAS) accurately and within the required local and national timescales.
3. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams
Work with clinicians, senior managers, and other relevant staff to obtain accurate clinical information. Provide and receive complex information from a range of stakeholders, using persuasive communication skills as needed to ensure successful coding outcomes. Communicate complex coding rules to medical, clinical, and administrative staff, as well as external agencies (e.g., Coroners Office), as appropriate.
4. Supporting and Mentoring Junior Coders
Assist Clinical Coding Team Leads in supporting and mentoring Associate Clinical Coders to ensure the timely and accurate submission of coded data. Contribute to the development of coding processes and the improvement of team performance.
5. Missing or Incomplete Data Resolution
Validate missing or incomplete patient information and work with clinicians and clerical staff to retrieve clinical records and other necessary data. Ensure that all patient information is accurately recorded and entered into the system, reducing delays and improving data integrity.
6. Operational Support and Process Improvement
Actively support the organization's transformation and cost-improvement initiatives that use coded data to drive financial gains and enhance operational efficiency. Critically examine existing practices within the department to identify opportunities for cost improvements and support the implementation of action plans.
