QC Welding Inspector- South of Aberdeen
The Role
The QC Welding Inspector role will be integrated into the fabrication department with the responsibility for the day-to-day weld/dimensional inspection of the fabrication shop.
Responsibilities
Ensure the upkeep of our Quality systems ISO 9001 & 3834-2 are maintained by diligent upkeep of:
Before welding
* Materials/weld consumable traceability.
* Joint preparation. (e.g. shape and dimensions)
* Fit-up, jigging and tacking.
* Ensure tool, working area, lighting, and the environment (e.g. protection from wind, temperature, and rain) are suitable for task.
* Any special requirements in the welding procedure specification. (e.g. prevention of distortion)
During welding
* Control of distortion.
* Any intermediate examination. (e.g. checking dimensions)
After welding
The use of visual inspection. (for completeness of welding, weld dimensions, shape)
The form, shape, tolerance, and dimensions of the construction.
The identification of weld locations in construction.
The identification of the location of repairs.
The identification of the location of temporary attachments.
Traceability of welder and welding operators, welding procedure specifications to specific welds.
Ensuring welding work is allocated to qualified personnel.
Ensure correct weld procedures are used on particular work.
Ensure consumables are kept in stock.
Stock control and material checking.
Assist Responsible Welding Coordinator in monitoring weld procedures, carrying out welder audits.
Record readings from welding processes, collate readings, temperatures etc.
Arrange NDT testing/mechanical testing.
Ensure the relevant NDT techniques are utilized in accordance with relevant specifications and client/company procedures.
Review radiographs of completed welds if required.
Sign off welding reports. (and radiographs if qualified)
Ensuring that QC inspections are carried out against product specifications in a timely manner.
Carry out visual inspection of structural /pipework/vessel assemblies against the approved design data in an efficient manner to support production schedules.
Write/Maintain records of weld maps/logs and dimensional reports inspected components.
Prepare QA documentation packages in accordance with relevant company and or client supplied procedures/acceptance standard.
Dealing with weld repairs, and maintain records where necessary i.e. weld repair rates.
To ensure non-conforming assemblies, sub-assemblies, parts, materials, and processes are identified and appropriate actions are taken to resolve the non conformance.
Investigation and reporting of inspection problems and scrap products.
Ensure job cards are kept up to date for welding/NDT activities.
Ensuring the safe handling of materials used in fabrication processes including consumables and lubricants etc. where applicable, in accordance with COSHH Legislation.
Ensure that procedures for risk assessments, safety audits and inspections are implemented.
Ensure that procedures for safe plant and equipment are implemented.
Ensure you work safely and you are not endangering yourself, those around you or the environment.
Ensure health and safety and environmental policies are adhered to.
Liaise with Certifying Authority/client/third party inspectors when necessary.
Supervision of young workers/trainees/apprentices.
Ensuring client requirements are met.
Requirements
Qualifications
* CSWIP 3.1 qualification. (desirable)
Skills
* Fully conversant in all welding processes – MMA, TIG, MIG, MAG, flux core, sub arc.
* Knowledgeable in the variety of grades of materials in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium etc.
* Ability to interpret general assembly drawings, Isometrics, Structural, Piping, Process & Instrumentation drawings.
* Manage their day-to-day work to ensure that work is carried out in accordance with procedures and all deadlines are met.
* PC literate and good knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Outlook packages.

Salay and Benefits
* Salary- circa £40K (flex for the right candidate)
* Pension - eligible after 3 months at 4% contributions by the Company, minimum 5% contribution by the employee

* Monday to Thursday- 08.00 – 16.30
* Friday- 08.00 – 15.30
* Lunch daily- 12.30 – 13.00
