Job summary Surgical Nurse Advanced Practitioner (SNAP) To work with the speciality services of ENT, Plastics and Maxfax, within the directorate of surgery. It has a helipad which opened in spring 2014 and the work of its emergency department can currently be seen on Channel 4's '24 Hours in A&E' programme. The hospital also provides all the usual care you would expect from a local NHS district general hospital. Main duties of the job The Surgical Nurse Advanced Practitioner (SNAP) team have evolved over the past years as a result of changes to junior medical training and a desire to optimise patient pathways and provide more patient focused care. The team have rapidly become an integral part of delivering a high quality and responsive service across the specialities of ENT, Maxfax and Plastics. The post holder will provide leadership and advanced clinical practice in the assessment and treatment of new presentations through A&E as well as established in- patient care. The successful candidate will be an independent prescriber with excellent clinical and decision making skills and a recognised advanced patient assessment course. The ability to work within a fast paced, pressurised environment is essential, with the ability to coordinate effectively. A competency based development programme and training opportunities will be provided for successful candidates without the relevant speciality based experience. These must be achieved within an agreed time frame in order to meet the requirements of the role.
