The Director of Architecture is responsible for shaping and driving Genomics England's technology strategy and architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and enabling the delivery of our vision. Collaborating closely with architects and stakeholders across the organisation, the role oversees the development of a cohesive enterprise architecture and establishes a mature framework of standards, governance, and processes. As a key leader within the technical community, this role combines deep technical vision with strong collaboration and leadership skills, while also fostering skills and knowledge development through leading the Architecture chapter. Job Description Formulate and communicate Genomics England's technology strategy and architecture vision, collaborating across teams to ensure alignment and buy-in. Work with product managers, designers, architects, and technical leaders to establish and maintain a comprehensive architecture roadmap, identifying capabilities to achieve Genomics England’s strategic goals. Build a cohesive architecture community, defining clear roles, responsibilities, and ways of working to promote alignment, accountability, and shared ownership. Drive the development and adoption of architecture principles, patterns, and standards, balancing governance with team autonomy to support high-quality delivery. Lead initiatives to embed non-functional requirements such as security, resilience, and observability into solutions by design, ensuring best practices across teams. Represent Genomics England in key technology forums, maintain relationships with suppliers and partners, and drive joint innovation to align external roadmaps with organisational vision. Oversee the engagement, training, and development of the architecture chapter while integrating a mature architecture framework into the company operating model and processes.
